Do I Need Full Mouth Reconstruction?
When looking in the mirror, you may feel embarrassed by your smile, but you might not think it’s bad enough to warrant full mouth reconstruction. But instead of putting off an appointment with one of our dentists because you assume you won’t be a good candidate, we can examine your teeth and explain how best to move forward.
Generally, if you have any of the following issues, there is a good chance you’ll be recommended for full mouth reconstruction:
- You have multiple missing teeth
- You have teeth that are badly damaged
- Acid erosion has caused your teeth to become significantly worn
- You have bite misalignment that is causing chronic jaw pain
The Full Mouth Reconstruction Process
A thorough consultation must first occur before any decision is made as to whether you should receive full mouth reconstruction. If you are cleared for this type of essential and extensive treatment, Dr. Alex, Dr. Woo, or Dr. Williams will work with you to build a plan that meets your unique needs.
You can expect that it will require multiple dental appointments and adequate recovery times based on the services your plan suggests. While most of the treatments you receive will be performed in-house, we will let you know if you need to see an outside specialist for anything else.
Some of the potential services our team might suggest include:
- Prophylaxis (teeth cleaning)
- Crown lengthening, which is designed to prepare your teeth for crowns or bridges
- Orthognathic surgery to help realign your jaw
- Gum recontouring to create a more even gumline
- Preparing your tooth or teeth for crowns, bridges, or veneers
- Placing a temporary restoration so that you can become adjusted to your new bite or teeth before the permanent one(s) is put into place
- Helping to shift teeth into their proper position with braces for eventual reconstruction
- Generating greater stability for your teeth or implants with bone or soft tissue grafting
