Infection Control

Infection controls and universal precautions protect patients and staff alike. Everyone benefits from rigorous infection control you, your dentist, and the dental team. The cornerstone in a good and safe dental practice is the element of trust. You should feel free to discuss this topic with the doctors and staff of Main Line Dental and receive a thorough answer.

The entire clinical team of MLD follows procedures recommended by several federal agencies: the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA,) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). These measures include:

  • Disinfectant hand soap
  • Gloves and face masks
  • Chemical disinfection of counter-tops and surfaces
  • Sterilization of all equipment and instruments before every use
  • Disposable materials
  • Use of disposable barriers wherever possible

Photo of Dental tools sterilization & autoclave at Main Line Dental GroupWe sterilize all reusable equipment, including dental hand-pieces. We have invested in hospital grade instrument washers and dryers and multiple autoclaves, devices that kill bacteria and viruses by steam, heat, and pressure. In addition, all treatment rooms are equipped with self-contained sterile water supplies, thus eliminating the possibility of contamination from stagnant water in supply lines.

The best defense against disease is information. The more you know, the better equipped you are to make wise decisions about your health care. The more you know about our daily procedures and policies, the more comfortable you will feel. Feel free to ask for a tour and description of our sterilization area.
