Dr. Maria Schellhorn was born in Vina del Mar, Chile. She was raised in Chile, Germany and France and as a result is now fluent in Spanish, French and German. Dr. Schellhorn graduated from the University of Valparaiso in Chile in 1998, receiving her Doctoral Degree of Dentistry. In 2000, she came to the United States with her husband, Dr. Antonino Secchi. Dr. Secchi received his Graduate Certificate in Orthodontics and is now Clinical Director of the Graduate Clinic of Orthodontics at the University of Pennsylvania. During this time, Dr. Schellhorn was a Clinical Instructor as well as a student in the PASS Program at the University of Pennsylvania.
The PASS Program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine is a two year Program designed for dentists who have received their degrees outside of the United States. It provides them a means to earn the credentials necessary to gain a US license to practice dentistry. Dr. Schellhorn’s exceptional talent was recognized by her colleagues, and, following her graduation from the PASS Program in 2009, she was asked to continue on at the University of Pennsylvania as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Restorative Dentistry. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Schellhorn continues to take advanced training courses in all aspects of general dentistry; particularly those dealing with the newest, minimally invasive techniques. She enjoys working with children, adolescents and adults.
Dr. Schellhorn lives in Berwyn with her husband and three daughters, Sofia, Rafaella and Isabella. She is an active member of the Upper Main Line YMCA and likes to participate in all of her children’s activities including girl scouts, tennis and soccer.
